Bristol Credit Union welcomes four new board members

They bring a wide range of additional expertise.

Bristol Credit Union (BCU) is delighted to welcome four new members to its Board of Directors. The new faces bring a wide range of additional expertise gained across sectors from multinationals to government lobbying. Each new member embodies the BCU values of ethical banking and helping local communities prosper, and is giving their time for free in serving their community as a Board-level volunteer.

The new members joined the team in March in the unusual circumstances caused by the Covid-19 lockdown and have been adjusting well to Board video calls. The four include accountant and auditor, Jo Bailey-Watson, leading financial services authority, Louise Eaton-Terry, IT and digital transformation expert, Denis Lindsay, and experienced board trustee and director, Simon Taylor.

Bristol Credit Union CEO, James Berry commented:

Bristol Credit Union is absolutely thrilled to welcome these four dedicated experts to our Board, who share our vision on driving ethical finance forward. They bring a diverse range of skills, not only in financial services but also in digital transformation and board-level leadership.

“After our successes last year, including a 30% increase in loans and 2,500 new members, we look forward to continuing to grow and increase awareness around alternative finance. Our latest Board recruits will be invaluable additions to help us reach our goals.”

Jo Bailey-Watson said:

“After volunteering for Bristol Credit Union in the past, it is a particular pleasure to join the Board and continue my work with the team to help even more people in the community access fairer finance. I look forward to collaborating with the Board and my fellow new members, whom I know bring a host of skills in their particular area and a passion for ethical finance.”

The four new members of the BCU Board bring a range of skills and expertise as detailed in the short bios below:

Jo Bailey-Watson

Jo Bailey-Watson is a qualified accountant and audit manager with a vast range of experience, from local housing associations to NATO. She brings expert knowledge and skills in both internal and external auditing. Jo has previously volunteered for Bristol Credit Union and has been a brilliant addition to the team with her firm understanding of how to help members through financial hardship.

Louise Eaton-Terry

Commended in the 2019 Women in Financial Services Awards, Louise works for a financial services company, rated 5* by Fairer Finance. She is an authority on funeral poverty, leading PR and public policy on these matters, including lobbying to address flaws in state support.

Denis Lindsay

Denis works for multinational companies helping to deliver digital and IT transformation projects, and BCU has already benefited from his technical expertise when undergoing its digital transformation. Denis also brings valuable experience in non-executive roles, one of these being a Board Member for the much-loved St Paul’s Carnival.

Simon Taylor

Simon Taylor is an experienced board trustee and director, having worked with another credit union and many different organisations, including the Redcliffe Children’s Centre and Derbyshire Community Bank. He brings experience from various financial organisations and is dedicated to the financial wellbeing of BCU members.
