Affordable Easter fun for families this April

Our guide highlights some of the best free and affordable Easter events and activities near you, so you can enjoy Easter without breaking the bank. 

April is here, and while Easter usually brings joy, excitement and plenty of chocolate eggs–this year may feel a little different for many. With the cost of living continuing to rise and household bills set to increase again from this month, it’s understandable that Easter spending might cause extra stress for some. 

But enjoying the holidays with your loved ones doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag. Whether you’re keeping an eye on your budget or simply looking for affordable fun, there are plenty of free and affordable Easter activities across the South West to help make memories without breaking the bank. 

Here are some ideas to get you started: 

Bristol and Bath 

Head over to Ashton Court for a free Easter trail where you can help find Reg the rabbit and his friends. Running from the 5th-21st April, pick up your free trail sheet from the courtyard café next to Ashton court mansion and set off on a mini adventure where there’ll be a prize waiting at the end.  

The Clifton Easter bunny trail returns, running from the 5th-19th of April, find the bunnies hidden around Clifton village using your free trail map.  Download your free map here or pick up your map from one of the following locations: 

  • Chino's Café (64 The Mall) 

  • Otomi (4 Boyce's Ave) 

  • The Lansdown pub (8 Clifton Rd) 

  • Copa (2 Regent Street) 

Find 15 bunnies to claim a sweet treat from Coppa Club Clifton, and if you spot more than 15, you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win goodies from The Ivy Clifton Brasserie and The Redgrave Theatre. 

From 4th–22nd April, enjoy classic fairground rides and stalls at Bath’s Royal Victoria Park Easter Fair. Entry is just £2, making it a great budget-friendly family day out. 

Somerset

Wells Cathedral is hosting free Easter-themed craft events and story trails for children (with paid adult entry). Activities include Easter garden making, card crafting, and a fun, interactive trail to explore the Easter story. Drop-in sessions are available across multiple days—check their website for full details. 

From 5th–21st April, kids can take part in a dinosaur-themed Easter egg hunt at the Grand Pier in Weston-Super-Mare for just £2. The entry fee includes the egg hunt, free face painting, and a chance to meet the Easter Bunny. Once the trail sheet is completed, kids can claim a sweet treat from the bunny’s secret stash! 

Wiltshire  

Fancy something a little different? Head to Westbury Garden in Bradford on Avon on 21st April for the annual Duck Race! The duck race is free to watch, and just £2 to sponsor a duck. The event runs from 10am–2pm and features games, food stalls, and lots of family fun. 

Get creative this Easter with hands-on workshops at Calne Town Hall. From wind-chime making to Easter bonnet decorating, there’s something for everyone. Sessions are just £5 workshop—for workshop times and booking info, check here. 

Dorset 

Lyme Regis in Dorset will be hosting an Easter bonnet parade, held on the 20th April, the event is open for anyone to come along and watch or take part if you’re feeling creative! For more information on the event read here. 

Easter fun at home
