Since 2024 is a leap year, we will have an additional day in February. With busy lives where time is short, we could all use the 29th of February for something special. Here are some ideas to spend that extra day.
Volunteer
Want to use this extra day to do some good in your local community? Volunteering is a great way to connect with your community and make it a better place to live and work.
Take a look at the volunteering options available in Dorset, Somerset, Bristol, Bath, Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire.
Earns some extra cash
In today's world, a “side hustle” can be a great way to make some additional money, especially during the rising costs.
Completing online surveys, walking a neighbour’s dog, selling items online, and even becoming a mystery shopper are just some ways you can start earning money, on the side.
You can also download some money-making apps like Swagbucks, Qmee or Branded Surveys. So instead of playing another level of your usual games, give your wallet a boost with some extra pounds.
Have a self-care day
Modern life takes a toll on our body and mind, so it is important to prioritise it and give yourself some TLC. Take the day to rest and do what you enjoy most. This can look like anything, taking a walk in the park, doing some yoga in your front room, reading a book or binge-watching a TV show!
Early Spring Clean
Keeping your space clean and tidy is great for your overall well-being. Give your home a thorough cleanout. Refresh your sheets, tidy up your fridge or deep clean your oven. Sort through your wardrobe, cupboards and garage and sell anything you don't need on Vinted, Gumtree, or Facebook marketplace.
Sort out your finances
Did you know that up to a third (34%) of UK adults had either no savings or less than £1,000 in a savings account? That’s around 22.8 million people who have no fallback funds.
If you’ve been putting off checking your finances for a while, use this extra day and set some goals for the year.
Tidy up your budget to help you achieve your goals. This can include looking through your last year budget and making some positive changes, such as cancelling your unused subscriptions or setting a budget on your monthly takeaways.
Reach out to someone.
Can you remember the last time you had a proper chat with your friends? How about that family member you haven't heard from in a while? It’s time to reconnect!
Spend the day with that friend or family member that you’ve been yearning to see. Maybe you can grab a coffee, watch a movie, or lend a hand with their project.
Having a proper conversation (i.e. not on social media or a text) with someone gives you both social endorphins boost, and you’ll appreciate you made the time for that special someone.
