GWCU shortlisted in Fintech Awards South West

GWCU & DWL's digital transformation recognised at upcoming Fintech Awards South West

Great Western Credit Union (GWCU) and Digital Wonderlab (DWL) have been shortlisted for the Fintech for Good category at the inaugural Fintech Awards South West. The awards recognise the region’s innovative and thriving Fintech community and bring together industry leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs to celebrate their successes. The ceremony takes place at Aerospace Bristol on Thursday 6th July.

Back in 2020, GWCU, with the help of Digital Wonderlab, transformed its digital offering to provide a better experience for existing members, whilst also attracting new ones. As a key part of their growth objectives, the digital platform has made ethical, fair and affordable finance more accessible to tens of thousands of people across the region, with over 4,000 new members having joined GWCU since the new platform was launched.

James Berry, CEO of Great Western Credit Union, said:

“This past decade has seen a cultural shift towards digital and ethical banking and as the biggest credit union in the South West, we are proud to have evolved to meet our members’ changing needs. This nomination is recognition of the significant social impact we have provided to thousands of people through our digital services, making access easier, faster, and more reliable. Going forward, tech with a purpose remains a major focus so watch this space for more.”

As part of GWCU’s current Bond Offer, the credit union plans to further upgrade the capabilities of their digital platform and offer face-to-face services, as well as making purpose-driven finance more accessible. So far the organisation has raised almost £1m in Bonds from over 150 investors with the Bond Offer set to close on 18th July 2023*.
