Ideas to get into the Christmas spirit on a budget!

With Christmas holidays around the corner, you may be running low on ideas on how to keep you and your loved ones entertained. We have put together a list of budget-friendly activities to get into the Christmas spirit without breaking the bank.

Decorate a gingerbread house

A fun activity for all ages is Gingerbread house decorating. Not only does the family get to unleash their creative side, but the best part of this activity is getting to eat it afterwards. This ASDA gingerbread house kit comes with everything you need and is suited to buying a few for a friendly decorating competition to recreate a Bake-Off Christmas Special at home.

Horse-drawn carriage

Tyntesfield house is offering a magical horse-drawn carriage ride around their grounds for only £4 per person. Enjoy a romantic evening with your partner or take your kids to meet Father Christmas who is also rumoured to appear around the grounds. Go on a Sunday to enjoy local handicrafts and festive foods at the Christmas market!

Meet Santa

Want to take the little ones to meet their Christmas hero? Weston Super-Mare is hosting Father Christmas at The Sovereign Centre every weekend leading up to Christmas Tickets are £8 per child. This gives your child access to the elf workshop, crafts and even a snowball fight. Of course, Father Christmas will be there to remind them to be good during the holidays. Get your tickets here.

Movie night

Too cold to leave the comfort of your home? Plan a festive movie night! Whether it is with your partner or the whole family, this idea is cheap and easy. Play a game or flip a coin to decide who gets to pick the movie and cosy up on the couch for a Christmas movie marathon, extra points if you build a fort. Pop some cookies in the oven and pour a cup of hot chocolate for a little extra cosiness.

Light up shows and trails

For the fourth year in a row, Clevedon is bringing back its light show on the lake. They are bringing in all kinds of spectacular light events ranging from lit model boats to fire dancers. This a night filled with music (specifically Samba), entertainment and Christmas cheer and it’ll cost you nothing!

Bournemouth is back to hosting its Wonderland event with beautifully illuminated gardens in the centre. Not only are the trees decorated (with themes from around the world), the surrounding buildings and businesses are joining in to light up the town all along the seafront. Take a walk through the town and end it off by roaming around the markets, all for free.

Christmas markets

The Christmas markets continue to outdo their previous years’ self. With new experiences and events added every year to keep things fresh and fun. Clevedon is hosting various local bands, choirs, and plenty of games for children to enjoy. The Christmas market in Bath is celebrating its return after COVID alongside its 20th anniversary, promising visitors a trip to remember.
