Bristol Credit Union invests in South Bristol Sports Centre

Our £15,000 investment will help create six new all-weather five-a-side football pitches.

As part of a total package of investment of c£1m, raised with the help of Bristol & Bath Regional Capital CIC, the recently launched not-for-profit investment intermediary, Bristol Credit Union’s investment will help secure SBSC’s long term future.

BCU’s investment will help secure a vital and much-used community resource, and is a tangible demonstration of BCU’s mission to be here for everyone in Bristol, Bath and the surrounding areas.

Mike Innes, Chair of SBSC said “Our new state-of-the-art football courts, with FIFA 2016 approved surfaces, provide the people of South Bristol with a fantastic sports centre that we can all feel extremely proud of”.

James Berry, CEO of BCU, praised the development:

The South Bristol Sports Centre is a much used community facility benefiting its local area, the rest of Bristol and the wider region. The new pitches don’t just improve the facilities available to local people but will also help SBSC become a more sustainable social enterprise. BCU is delighted to play a part in helping support our local community and our members by investing in such a worthwhile venture.

The total investment package was put together by Bristol & Bath Regional Capital, which aims to facilitate effective collaborations designed to improve lives and encourage deeper civic engagement by directing investment into commercially viable projects and enterprises that enhance the social, environmental and economic fabric of the region.

BCU’s investment forms part of a total package which includes funding from Rathbones Investment Management and the Resonance Social Investment Tax Relief Fund.
