BCU celebrates lockdown heroes this Christmas

Christmas campaign celebrates Bristol heroes who went the extra mile this year

Bristolians who went the extra mile supporting friends and families through the challenges of 2020 are being celebrated by Bristol Credit Union (BCU) through its #MyBristolChristmasHero campaign. To deliver some much-needed festive cheer the credit union has released a heart-warming video of local people nominating who they think deserves special recognition for helping them and their community in Bristol. BCU has also launched a competition to find this year’s Christmas hero with a pair of £100 Co-op gift cards up for grabs.

James Berry, CEO of Bristol Credit Union, said: “2020 has been a year of change and challenge, but it’s also shone a light on those members of our community who continue to go the extra mile to support their friends and neighbours during a crisis.
“We’ve captured the spirit of lockdown generosity with the help of some grateful Bristolians and their heroes which we’re releasing as part of our #MyBristolChristmasHero campaign.”

Featuring at the heart of the #MyBristolChristmasHero campaign are nominations for neighbours, family members and key workers for helping communities throughout the pandemic. This includes NHS frontline workers who were nominated for their care and assistance during these difficult times. Planning for the campaign started in September with Konichiwa, a Bristol-based creative communications agency, who produced the video.

The competition is now open. If you know someone who’s kept your spirits up when times were tough or delivered things you needed when you couldn’t go out - then this is your chance to show them how much you care. Simply tell BCU a little bit about who they are and what they mean to you to enter.

The winner will receive a £100 Co-op gift card for themselves and a £100 Co-op gift card for their hero. The competition closes at midnight, Sunday 13th December. The winner will be picked at random. More information, including terms and conditions, can be found here.

James Berry continued: “Our Christmas campaign turns a spotlight on the spirit of lockdown with the people of Bristol pulling together to help support each other.
“We understand that festive spending can put a strain on finances and Bristol Credit Union is here to help.

“We’re providing Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire with access to fair and ethical loans, to ensure people are financially supported throughout the festive period, and to help our local economy to build back better.”

Despite the pandemic, 2020 has been a year of growth for Bristol Credit Union which announced plans to help the community through the Covid-19 crisis, including zero interest loans for NHS workers and employing three Member Support Team Members to assist with loan repayments. The credit union recently announced a merger with Wyvern Savings and Loans in Dorset, adding over 3,000 members and £1.9million in deposits to Bristol Credit Union.
