Fun and affordable events to get into the Christmas spirit

We thought we would help you out by digging out some fun and affordable Christmas activities happening in your area. 

Christmas Shows 

For the Bristolians, Yate Library is hosting a Christmas Rhymetime on 15 December. If you have young toddlers and babies, this is an amazing way to spend some time with your little ones and meet other parents all while spreading some holiday cheer. Best of all, its free! Just make sure you have a library card. 

The Beacon Theatre in Gloucestershire is hosting Dean Close Preparatory School as they put on ‘Nativity! The Musical’. The free show takes place from 6 December to 8 December. You’re not going to want to miss this! 

Don’t have plans for your annual ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ viewing? If you’re in and around Swindon, The Pound Arts Centre has you covered. Head down on 16 December to catch a showing of the movie, with tickets prices starting at £7. 

Cheltenham’s School House Café is hosting Phil the Entertainer on 16 December. For £5, you and your child can enjoy 2 hours of music and entertainment- it even includes a drink and a Christmas biscuit! Secure your tickets ASAP! 

Christmas markets and light trails 

Clevedon is back for another year of their Christmas market on 7 December. There will be stalls, food, music, shopping and you may even spot Father Christmas roaming around. This is the perfect free event with something for the whole family.  

Bournemouth’s free festive trail is back this year! Head over to Christmas Tree Wonderland anytime between now and 1 January to gaze at the magical lights. There’s so much to see so make sure you dress warm and get ready for some beautiful exhibitions.  

Winchcombe will be decking the halls this year at their Christmas Festival, taking place on 8 and 9 December. Enjoy the Christmas stalls, food, carol singing and live music. Pop into some of the local shops to find some unique gifts for your loved ones. They are even offering free parking on 9 December! 

Christmas activities 

AUB, in partnership with AECC and Bournemouth University, is hosting a free Family Fun Day for foster families and anyone who has experienced care. Families can attend on 19 December for a full day of games, activities, sports and workshops! There are also mince pies, competitions and goodie bags for young people. 

If you live in and around Gillingham, Dorset, Thorngrove Garden Centre is putting on a Christmas crafts event where your child can create to their heart’s content! For £7.50, your child will have access to a variety of craft materials to make wreaths, snowmen, masks and card. They will also be provided with a soft drink and biscuits. 

No. 1 Royal Crescent in Bath is taking us back in time to make masquerade masks to celebrate Christmas like a Georgian. The event is free but you will need to have an annual pass to enter, which is £15 for adults and free for children under 18. They host many events throughout the year, most of them free with entry. This could be one of the best Christmas deals yet! 

Head down to the Wareham Library in Dorset for a cosy crafty Christmas on 18 December. The free event, suitable for children 4-11, includes Christmas story time, decorations and of course, warm hot chocolate for some extra cosiness. Reserve your free spot before they fill up!
