The Annual Percentage Rate (APR) depends on the size of the loan. For example, loans from £1,750 to £2,499 have a Representative APR of 32.9%. Please refer to the interest rate table for more details.

The maximum APR is 42.6% for a loan of £1,750 or less.

You can borrow from £100 to £2,499 and spread your repayments over 1 month to 2 years for loans between £100 and £1,750 or repay over 1 month to 3 years for loans from £1,750 to £2,499. Loans are subject to status.

Yes. As a responsible lender, we will check your credit history with a Credit Reference Agency to help us make our lending decisions, but you can still qualify for a loan with us even if you’ve got a bad credit history.

Even if you have had difficulties managing credit or bills in the past, you may be able to qualify for a loan with Great Western Credit Union, subject to affordability.

We do carry out a credit check, but a poor credit history does not necessarily mean we won’t lend to you. We take every applicant’s personal circumstances into account when we make our decision.

We offer loans from £100 to £15,000. How much you can borrow depends on your personal circumstances. When we make our decision, we look at factors such as your income, your outgoings and if we think you'll be able to afford to repay the loan.

To apply for a loan, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Age 18+ and live, work or study in Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset or Bath and North East Somerset.
  • Or you're a UNITE and UNISON member from the South-West, or a tenant of one of our partner housing associations
  • You have a regular income over £450 per month
  • You have enough disposable income to meet the loan repayments

You’ll also need an email address and mobile number to apply. Make sure you have your National Insurance number, income details and your bank details handy, plus proof of identity. 

If you are unable to provide these during your application, you can save and complete in branch or at one of our Service Points.
